Charitable Giving and Donor Issues – The Legal Perspective

Nonprofits depend on charitable giving to be sustainable. It is critical for the organization to plan ahead, thinking through potential issues with donor gifts in order for the organization to stay mission-focused and make informed decisions. In the same way, staff working with these donors should also understand what matters for the donor and what legal considerations a donor faces such as donor-advised funds, private foundation regulations, and government or quasi-government donors.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Assess legal guidelines to better understand donor considerations
  • Mitigate risk and liability of accepted gifts
  • Take actionable steps to position the organization to make informed decisions
