Find Security in Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity has increasingly become a global issue that can be a threat to both individuals as well as organizations.  Nonprofits are not exempt from being the target of cybercriminals, particularly nonprofits that have significant investments in technology. In addition, the compliance environment for organizations that maintain sensitive information about their clients can be particularly challenging to negotiate. This half-day seminar will help you better identify risks in your environment and will help you prepare to build a Cybersecurity program that focuses on people, processes and technology.

The course is designed for a nontechnical audience and the Executive Director, CIO/other IT leader, and a board member should consider attending together.

Learning objectives:

  • Identify the elements of a successful Cybersecurity program
  • Define the fundamental pillars of Cybersecurity
  • Identify common techniques cybercriminals use to hack organizations
  • Describe the technology controls necessary to protect from common threats
  • Analyze contract language for the impact of Cybersecurity breaches
  • Understand and improve common employee behaviors that impact Cybersecurity
  • Develop an incident response plan and test those plans with real-world scenarios

  8. Cybersecurity Tabletop Exercise

Prerequisites: Complete online assessment 1 week prior to class

George Finney, J.D. is the author of No More Magic Wands: Transformative Cybersecurity Change for Everyone and has worked in Cybersecurity for over 15 years. He is currently the Chief Security Officer for Southern Methodist University where he has also taught on the topic of Information Assurance. Mr. Finney is an attorney and is a Certified Information Security Manager as well as a Certified Information Security Systems Professional and is a regular speaker on Cybersecurity.
