The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is currently seeking an exceptional individual with high integrity to serve in the critical and visible role of CFO & Vice President of Finance (CFO). The selected candidate will be responsible for the leadership and executive oversight of the Dallas Symphony Association (DSA) and the Dallas Symphony Foundation’s (DSF) financial position. The Chief Financial Officer will report to and serve as a strategic partner to the President & CEO.

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing long-term strategies to achieve financial goals. The selected candidate will report to internal and external constituencies regarding the financial position of the DSA and the DSF.   The position manages the finance/accounting department of the Dallas Symphony Association.

Executive position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and present financial information to donors, Board of Governors, Finance Committee and advise key members of executive management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and financial policy matters.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Dallas Symphony
  • Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance/accounting staff
  • Manage on-going and ad hoc reporting of historical performance, including financial results, productivity metrics, industry trends, and key performance indicators
  • Provide analysis, reporting, and modeling to executive management to support target achievement initiatives
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping appropriate person(s) informed of all critical issues
  • Provide strategic support during union contract negotiations
  • Oversee preparation of the DSA and DSF 990 tax returns
  • Manage banking relationships
  • Promote a culture of trust, team work and high performance with all colleagues


The CFO will bring a substantial personal presence, with broad managerial competence and a special skill in strategic relationship building and the ability to clearly articulate the financial picture in groups and one-on-one meetings as needed. Also required:

  • An undergraduate degree and preferably an advanced degree in a related field. CPA certification strongly desired. Additional qualifications include ten or more years’ progressive experience in Finance, with at least five years in a significant leadership role. Non-profit accounting experience a plus.
  • Prior management experience—enabling staff to function independently while exercising respectful oversight.
  • Interpersonal skills. The individual should be an active listener and an articulate communicator to all audiences.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Polished personal skills and comfort in formal and informal settings.
