Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the primary role of the Corporate and Major Gifts Officer is the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporate and major gift donors. This position is responsible for identifying, engaging, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a portfolio of 75+ donors and prospects to meet the goals of the Museum. The Corporate and Major Gifts Officer must be a skilled facilitator, capable of articulating institutional objectives to funders. The position is also responsible for developing a priority list of new prospects and individual strategies to secure new gifts. The Corporate and Major Gift Officer will work collaboratively with all Museum staff and will match Museum funding priorities and projects with donor interests.


Basic Functions and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

The Corporate and Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the following general job functions:

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit funds from existing and emerging major gift donors and prospects
  • Manage relationships with corporate and major gift donors, working collaboratively with the development team to cultivate donors
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the culture and constituency of the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
  • Monitors all prospects to ensure continuous positive and purposeful donor relations.
  • Collaborates with appropriate Museum staff to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward appropriate sponsors
  • Initiates contact with potential corporate and major gift donors and develops appropriate cultivation strategies
  • Maintains stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
  • Operates well within a larger team while managing a portfolio
  • Manage individual and overall major gift strategies and collaborate with volunteer committee
  • Responsible for donor communication to include customized correspondence and other marketing materials
  • Formulate and implement appropriate strategies to continuously build the interest of major gift prospects and donors in supporting the Museum
  • Participate in the Development Office objectives and development of annual fundraising plans, strategies, timetables and budgets required to achieve those objectives
  • Assist as needed in the identification, cultivation, and recruitment of volunteer solicitors
  • Maintain cultivation and solicitation logs and files on major gift prospects in Raiser’s Edge or other software and prepare periodic status reports
  • Work as a cooperative member of the Development team to achieve department objectives


  • Undergraduate degree required and Bachelor’s degree in communications, business or similar field
  • Must possess three to five years of institutional fundraising experience with an emphasis on corporate and major gifts
  • Ability to work under deadlines is critical
  • Candidate must demonstrate exceptional presentation, communication and organizational skills.
  • Possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated track record in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts in the five and six-figure range
  • Ability to work some evenings as necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of donors
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines
  • Experience working with high level corporate volunteers and community leaders
  • High energy level, enthusiasm, flexibility and an entrepreneurial spirit

  • A track record of achieving financial goals is essential.
