WHO WE ARE
Dallas Bethlehem Center has been one of the prominent community centers for the United Methodist Church since 1946, working with our local residents in the 75215 and 75210 neighborhoods in South Dallas - Fair Park. We currently serve our neighbors through on-site, experienced non-profit Program Partners in Early Childhood Education, Out-of-school Programs, Food Security and Community Engagement & Empowerment.
The Director for Dallas Bethlehem Center (DBC) has the following key responsibilities:
- Provides oversight of the design, implementation and monitoring of all efforts to achieve and leverage donations of financial, human, and in-kind resources in support of DBC’s mission. Specific areas of responsibility and oversight include: major donor relations and solicitation, proposal writing, grants writing, tracking and reporting, unrestricted fundraising, special events, public relations and community outreach, and volunteer coordination.
- Direct management responsibility for administrative assistant and facility manager, executing all office operations and providing good stewardship of resources. Supervises the Donor Relations Manager who is the dedicated liaison to donors associated with the United Methodist Church North Texas Conference.
- This is a full-time exempt position, reporting to the Board Chair.
- This position carries a fundraising portfolio and annual revenue generation goals.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Director will be responsible for achieving the following goals and objectives:
- Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals.
- Develop an annual fundraising plan with specific and measurable goals and objectives for development of restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Implement a strategy linked to the fundraising plan to solicit new sources of unrestricted and private cash funding through the submission of proposals and other requests for funding.
- Research private funding opportunities and serve as the focal person for the development of new proposals and donor cultivation.
- Oversee the preparation of letters of inquiry, proposals, budgets and reports to local foundations and other potential donors to solicit cash funds for programs in collaboration with program staff.
- Identify, cultivate, and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face donor cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative mechanisms.
- Oversee the distribution of donated in-kind goods to clients, ensuring efficient, productive service to clients.
- Ensure the Donor Relations Manager works effectively to meet cash and in-kind matching requirements and maintains appropriate documentation for all resources including cash donations, in-kind donations, and volunteer hours.
- Ensure the successful execution of annual fundraisers, donor appeals and other special events as applicable.
- Provide oversight of donation records management, also assuring that donors are promptly and appropriately recognized for their support.
- Public, Volunteer and Donor Relations
- Ensure that DBC maintains an active, effective, professionally managed volunteer program and continually recruits high quality volunteers to serve clients/programs and engage the community’s support.
- Oversee the production and distribution of communications materials & efforts, including brochures, monthly newsletters, social media and website updates.
- Assure outreach and networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors, volunteers and constituents.
- Raise awareness about DBC’s mission and representing the organization at meetings, seminars, and forums.
- Liaise between DBC and Zip Code Connection (ZCC) Development Staff
- Coordinating with ZCC staff, develop cross-organizational solicitation strategies and materials that maximize donor solicitations within 75215 and 75210, as appropriate.
- Grants Management
- Primary responsibility for writing accurate grants and submitting them on a timely basis.
- Maintain a grants management tracking and donor tracking system regularly updated with accurate data.
- Develop and ensure the effective maintenance of contract and grant files for each funded program with consistent documentation standards.
- Work closely with program staff to prepare interim and final reports to grantors.
- Work with program staff to develop high quality outcomes based-funding proposals.
- Take the lead on developing funding proposals, as appropriate.
- General Management Duties
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff.
- Meet regularly with the team to plan and review team goals.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the board of directors on status of resource development initiatives and provide timely reports on management issues and concerns.
- Ensure efficient collaboration with all departments in the development of resources in support of quality service delivery.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Coordinate with Donor Relations Manager as well as interns and corporate volunteers.
- Internally collaboratewith board of directors.
- Coordinate with the Zip Code Connection (ZCC) fundraising staff, as appropriate.
- Build, nurture and maintain relationships with civic, corporate and individual donors and with major church donors.
- Maintain relationships with non-profit Program Partners hosted at DBC
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to cultivate strong donor relations with high net worth individuals, corporations and foundations.
- University degree (BA) required; graduate degree preferred.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours including weeknights and weekends as necessary.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience with progressive levels of responsibility, including supervisory and program management experience preferred.
- Five (5) years prior experience with fundraising, public relations, proposal writing, volunteer coordination and other advocacy/development duties in the non-profit sector preferred.
- Proven record of foundation and donor relations and the successful development of grant proposals.
- Successful history of soliciting individual major donors for financial support and securing corporate gifts.
- Ability to conduct research through various sources to target and locate potential sources of funding.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with grantors, major donors, community leaders, partner agencies, government officials, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet research.
- Outstanding organizational, leadership and team-building skills.
- Ability to promote productivity and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment is highly desirable.
- Experience in creating development plans and systems that organize resource opportunities, track donor giving, and prioritize routine and emergent strategies.
