Job Summary:

The Director of Education and Community Partnerships is responsible for the development, design, implementation, delivery, and overall management of arts educational programming targeted to students K-12 and related community audiences in support of the mission of Dallas Summer Musicals.  Responsible for artistic quality and administration of DSM educational programing, maintaining positive relationships with local schools, agencies and not for profits and supporting Development Department with fundraising efforts for education programs.


  1. Develop departmental goals and educational programs that are in line with DSM’s long-term strategic plan
  2. Utilizing DSM’s core business of Broadway to engage, teach, and inspire K-12 and related community audiences
  3. Research and develop key relationships within the Dallas educational, governmental, not for profit and business communities to the benefit of DSM’s education goals
  4. Lead the administration of DSM’s existing educational programs and new programs including the scheduling of instructors, leading and mentoring volunteer and/or staff/ teaching artists
  5. Create efficient and effective budgets, work within budget guidelines and effectively track expense and income
  6. Work with DSM’s marketing team to market programs to appropriate constituencies
  7. Collaborate with Development Department on grant proposals and grant management
  8. Develop appropriate systems for evaluation of effectiveness/value of all education programs
  9. Recruit and manage volunteers, staff, teaching artists as needed
  10. Manage and administrate High School Musical Theatre Awards program, working hand in hand with the Artistic Director of the High School Musical Theater program
  11. Administer scholarship program


Credentials, experience and skill sets:


  1. Five + years’ experience in teaching and administering theater education programs in a school or arts organization setting
  2. Experience marketing theater education programs to area schools
  3. Represent DSM and its education programs to current and prospective donors and funding sources
  4. Successfully organized and managed complex and lengthy projects
  5. Strong verbal communication skills; able to comfortably present ideas in a persuasive manner
  6. Work effectively with teams up, down and across organizational lines
  7. Competent with Windows Office applications
  8. Bachelor’s Degree with major in arts-related and/or educational area
