The executive director is responsible for the overall administration and management of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas, including programs, advocacy, fundraising, and business operations. Areas of responsibility include strategic leadership and vision, planning and evaluation, policy development and administration, personnel and fiscal management, fund raising, board development, advocacy and public relations. The executive director is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors of MHA Dallas.

About Mental Health Association of Greater Dallas
Mental Health America of Greater Dallas (MHA Dallas) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to promote mental wellness through community education and policy advocacy. Through the support of our staff, volunteers and supporters, we help develop and improve resources for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents and adults with serious mental illness. Put simply, MHA Dallas serves as a catalyst to identify, assess and respond to mental health needs in the community.

As a facilitator and coordinator for local mental health service providers, MHA Dallas operates through strategic planning along with immediate responses to community crises as they arise. In addition to our efforts to supply information, education and advocacy related to mental health issues, we also provide preventive programs designed to equip high-risk populations (including children, the homeless and the indigent) with information and skills to combat stress and adversity.

Through collaboration with other service providers, MHA Dallas is building a powerful local movement to address the needs of those without affordable and accessible mental health services in the Dallas area.

The executive director is responsible for the overall administration and management of Mental Health America of Greater Dallas (MHA Dallas), including programs, advocacy, fundraising, and business operations. Areas of responsibility include strategic leadership and vision, planning and evaluation, policy development and administration, personnel and fiscal management, fund raising, board development, advocacy and public relations. The executive director is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors of MHA Dallas.
Responsibilities

Strategic leadership and vision
• Collaborate with the board to refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with MHA Dallas’ core mission.
• Provide inspirational leadership and direction, ensuring the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization; establish effective decision-making processes that will enable MHA Dallas to achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives.
• Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board and ensure open and accurate communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals.
• Build a diverse and inclusive Board representative of the community that is highly engaged and willing to leverage and secure resources.

Management and administration
• Develop and facilitate an active planning process.
• Develop organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission and vision of MHA Dallas.
• Develop and administer operational policies.
• Oversee all programs, services and activities to ensure that objectives are met.
• Ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements, including the annual audit and 990 tax return.
• Provide information for evaluation of the organization’s activities.

Fiscal Management
• Develop, recommend, and monitor annual and other budgets.
• Ensure effective audit trails.
• Approve expenditures.
• Provide for proper fiscal record-keeping and reporting.
• Submit monthly financial statements to the board of directors

Fund Raising
• Ensure that the flow of funds permits MHA Dallas to make continuous progress towards the achievement of its mission and that those funds are allocated properly to reflect present needs and future potential.
• Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization and enhance revenue from major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.

Personnel
• Administer board-approved personnel policies.
• Ensure proper and legal hiring and termination procedures.
• Oversee all disciplinary actions.
• Provide for adequate supervision and evaluation of all staff and volunteers.

Board relations
• Assist the board chair in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings.
• Initiate and assist in developing policy recommendations and in setting priorities.
• Facilitate the orientation of new board members.
• Work with the board to raise funds from the community.
• Staff board committees as appropriate.

Public relations and public policy
• Develop and execute comprehensive PR and marketing strategies.
• Build the digital brand and strategy to tell strategic stories that advance MHA’s mission.
• Lead MHA’s efforts in community organizing and coalition building around public policy issues, services planning and coordination effort, and program development.
• Represent the agency in the community to promote MHA’s goals.

Qualifications
The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to MHA Dallas’ mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
Specific requirements include:
• Degree or equivalent work experience, with at least five years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
• Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
• Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
• Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
• Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
• Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
• Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
