Job Description

General Description:

The Director is responsible for all operations of the Ascension Day School, a child-care center/preschool licensed by the State of Texas. The Director shall ensure that the school is a loving, caring, and safe environment for toddler and preschool age children using a Christian curriculum.

Ascension Day School is a ministry of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. As such, the Director is employed by the church and reports directly to the Rector (priest in charge), is advised by the Board of Directors (of which the majority are church members) and is supported by other church staff.


  • Program Operations – including adherence to State licensing requirements
  • Personnel Management – including the hiring, training and supervision of all school staff
  • Parent and Community Relations/Recruitment/Marketing
  • Staff Growth and Development – including continuing education for staff
  • Financial and Clerical – including assisting with the tracking of registration, billing and collection

Job Details/Requirements:

Ascension Day School is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm during the regular school year, which largely mimics the Richardson ISD calendar. However, the Director has after hours and year-round responsibilities, including attending board meetings, assisting with joint school/church functions, tours and school marketing/promotion, and a summer camp usually held in August.

The educational/experience requirements for the Director’s position are a bachelor’s degree with 12 hours in child development and 6 hours in business management and 2 years of experience in a school setting (at least one year in a licensed childcare center) or one of the other combinations of education and experience promulgated by the Licensing Division of the Texas Department of Child and Protective Services for the director of a licensed child-care center.

In addition, the Director should have at least 2 years of leadership experience and strong interpersonal skills.
